Graphics issues with Backplot and CNC-Calc in CIMCO Edit
If you're experiencing graphics issues with Backplot and/or CNC-Calc in CIMCO Edit, where the rendered area is incorrectly displayed as a small window in the top left corner, this guide is here to assist you. This problem is often associated with GDI scaling on High DPI monitors, particularly on 4K monitors with custom display scaling set higher than 100%. Fortunately, there are workarounds that can help resolve these graphics issues.
Backplot graphic issues:
CNC-Calc graphic issues:
Workaround 1 - Adjusting OpenGL GDI Compatibility Settings:
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- On the left hand side of the NVIDIA Control Panel window expand 3D Settings and select Manage 3D settings.
- On the Global Settings tab, change OpenGL GDI compatibility to Prefer compatible.
- Click Apply in the lower right corner of the NVIDIA Control Panel window.
- Restart CIMCO Edit.
Individual Application Basis:
If you would like to apply these changes on an individual application bases only then follow these instructions:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- On the left hand side of the NVIDIA Control Panel window expand 3D Settings and select Manage 3D settings.
- On the Program Settings tab, select CIMCO Edit from the dropdown menu under "1. Select a program to customize".
- Under "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:" choose your preferred graphics processor (in this example High-performance NVIDIA processor).
- Under "3. Specify the settings for this program" change OpenGL GDI compatibility to Prefer compatible.
- Click Apply in the lower right corner of the NVIDIA Control Panel window.
- Restart CIMCO Edit.
Workaround 2 - Adjusting High DPI Settings:
- Right-click on the CIMCO Edit shortcut on the desktop or CIMCOEdit.exe in the installation folder.
- Default installation paths:
- CIMCO Edit 2022: C:\Program Files\CIMCO 2022\CIMCOEdit
- CIMCO Edit 2023: C:\Program Files\CIMCO 2023\CIMCOEdit
- Default installation paths:
- Select Properties from the context menu.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Under High DPI scaling override, enable Override high DPI scaling behavior.
- Under Scaling performed by, select System (Enhanced) or Application. This setting behaves differently on various versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 so try both settings.
- Press OK to close the High DPI settings window.
- Press OK to close the Properties window.
- Restart CIMCO Edit
Workaround 3: Customizing Display Scaling
- Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
- Select "Display settings" from the context menu.
- Under "Scale and layout," adjust the custom scaling to 100%.
- Click "Apply" and then restart CIMCO Edit.
- Check if the graphics issue has been resolved.
